I flew in to Aruba Saturday, Sept. 29th. I got to the Radisson and checked in and walked around to check out the place. The rooms were tidy and clean and smelled good. I walked to the pool and beach and that was nice, but I just had to get to the poker room. I went there to find out they are having a $500 tournament, so I bought myself in. 122 people- it pays out the top 12.

The blinds went up slowly, about every 20 minutes, so I just sat back and didn't play many hands. I never got very high or low in chips. With about 30 players left I get pocket kings. A girl to my right goes all in. She had me covered in chips. I called. She flips up ace-king. The flop gave her an ace, but I turn a king, so I'm still in. Now we are close to the money bubble but I haven't had any good hands or pots for more than an hour. With 14 players left I go all-in in 1st position with ace-7. Everyone folds all the way to the big blind. But he had queens and called. I pick up an open-ended straight draw after the turn but it doesn't come. I finish just out of the money.
The next evening Ultimate Bet is having a welcoming banquet out by the pool for all the players and spouses. There were tons of free food and drinks for us. I met some people from Ultimate Bet and Absolute Poker. One of the AP guys was real nice and introduced me to Phil Hellmuth. I also saw Serinda Swan, Annie Duke, Mike Matasow, and Robert Williamson. It was a fun, relaxing night. Then it was getting late. It started when Phil offered the guys $500 for the best belly flop. The funny part was Annie getting mad at Phil Hellmuth for offering girls $1,000 and up to swim topless across the pool.
Monday they had a WSOP Poker Academy with Phil Helmuth, Annie Duke, Mark Seif and the top UB pro's speaking about strategy and different aspects of hold'em. It was informative and good to here some of the best players thoughts about the game.
Tuesday started the big tourney, but I didn't play that day. Instead I went on a snorkel trip around Aruba in a boat. Met and talked to people from all over on the boat. We tipped back a few and just had fun in the sun.

Wednesday is my day to play. I get to my table and don't know anyone. But I did find out that the three players to my left that all made it through Absolute Poker. We started with 10,000 in chips and 90 minute blind levels.
During the 1st level I get my stack up to 14,000. I hit a full house with
king- ten in the big blind with a guy betting into me the whole time. The next level I went back down under 10,000. I had ace-queen suited and I bet it all the way through against another guy who had a medium pair. I never improved and cost myself a few thousand in chips. My biggest hand of the day was pocket tens. I was third to act after the blinds. I had about 10,000 in chips. I raised to 3 times the blind. The guy to my left and the button called. The flop came 5-6-7 with 2 spades. I bet about half the pot. The next guy pushes all in for 3,800. The last guy also goes all-in for 3,700.
I'm not really liking this but the pot odds are too tempting. So I call.
First guy has pocket fives for a set. The other guy has pocket sevens for a bigger set. The turn comes a red queen. The river is BAM, a red 10 to give me the winner and knock 2 guys out. That gave me some well needed chips and put me over the average. Well gotta run now day two is about to start. From a starting field of 544 and now it's down to around 250, I have 23,100 chips to play with and half the field gone, let's see what it brings! I'll update you later.

Hello again poker fans. I've been busy this summer. Been to Vegas a couple times. The last time was for the WSOP main event. It was a blast, but you can't really expect much when there are 6300 other players to beat. I finished around 3000.

I've played in just a few of A.P.'s big weekend tourneys so far. I finished 17th out of 585 on Sunday, Aug. 26. Cashed for $930. I just played pretty straight-foward poker early on, letting all the crazies knock each other out. Towards the money bubble I started getting more aggresive and built up a good sized stack. Then I took a couple hits and got low on chips. Pushed all in for 6 times the blind with the first ace I saw(ace-5). I got called with AK and lost. I Hope to find time to play in more of those. The same day I played on a couple cash tables and won a couple hundred. I like the Jackpot tables. The allure of hundreds of thousands on a bad beat is too strong for me to pass up trying.

I'm gearing up for Aruba on Oct. 2nd. That should be a good tourny. I will be in the poker room most of the time, but hope to enjoy a little bit of Aruba too. In the mean time I'm catching a ride in my buddies motor home down to Tunica, Mississippi for 4 days. WSOP circuit event. A bunch of small buy in tourneys. I've always done well down there, and I want to keep in good practice playing live before Aruba gets here. And they usually have juicy cash games going on.

After that I think I'm going to Niagra Falls in December for a WPT event.

Then, after the new year there are tournaments everywhere, so I'm not sure exactly where I'll be. Till next time hope you all tear them up at the tables.
