The 2007 Aruba Poker Classic is under way, after the players enjoyed a few days soaking up the sun, splashing around in the surf, and partying the night away. Thank goodness all that nonsense is over and we can get down to the task at hand--playing some poker.
Not that the days leading up to the Main Event were a complete waste of time. On Sunday a number of top poker pros held a free World Series of Poker Academy for the players signed up for the Main Event. Annie Duke, Phil Hellmuth, and AP's Mark Seif discussed a number of topics relating to tournament play.

And it's not like the days leading up to the tournament were a complete waste of time, if you're the sort who can appreciate one of the most gorgeous places on the entire planet:

On Saturday night all the players gathered around the Radisson pool to enjoy some of the best food on the island and lots and lots and lots of cool tropical drinks. They also had a chance to meet players face-to-face that they might've only known by their online handles. A good time was had by all--especially those who took Phil Hellmuth up on his challenge to jump in the pool for $500.

There's another party scheduled for Saturday night--I'm thinking that a lot of people will show up in their bathing suits, in case there's a recurrence of the same madness. But that's way off in the future. Because right now there are cards in the air, pots to contest, and a final table to reach. There'll be time to party later. Now, it's time to play some poker.
