Rodney Davidson is the newest poker champion in Australia after winning the Australian Poker League tournament at Sydney's Luna Park yesterday. The event was a "free to play" event with a prize pool of $1 million. A total of 220 players from all over Australia entered the event.

The top 80 players all took home prize money, and one of the top six one a Jeep Cherokee. First place paid Davidson $300,000 in prize money. For 31-year-old Davidson, who has been poker with friends for two years now, the prize money he earned was more than welcome. He was having financial troubles but is now looking forward to investing the money in real estate.

The prize money was handed over by 2005 WSOP World Championship winner Joe Hachem. Also appearing at the event were Aussie singer Shannon Noll and famous Aussie sportsment such as Willie Mason. There also was a $10,000 Celebrity Charity tournament. The APL tournament will be televised.
