posted by Poker Queen @ 2:15 PM The highlight of the WSOP tournament this weekend was poker pro Eli Elezra winning his first World Series of Poker bracelet in Event #24.Poker pro Eli Elezra has long been considered one of the greatest tournament players without a WSOP bracelet. But that was before he defeated Scotty Nguyen in the $3,000 Seven Card Stud High/Low Split event on Saturday. Elezra started the day as chip leader with $303,000 at a star-studded final table. The layers at the final table besides Elezra were (in order of amount in chips): Scotty Nguyen 255,000, George Hardie 182,000, David Sklansky 171,000, Russell 'Dutch' Boyd 170,000, Thor Hansen 167,000, John Harkness 141,000 and Marshall Ragir 28,000. The tournament ended with a lengthy heads-up match between Elezra and Scotty Nguyen, which lasted almost two hours. During the match, both players seemed to have a great time, drinking beer together at the table, constantly bantering and calling each other drunk. There were rumors of Elezra and Nguyen making an away-from-the-table deal to split much of the prize money, which could explain the friendly atmosphere at the table. Elezra ended up winning the battle with an ace-high straight, getting $198,984 in prize winnings. That was less money than he won in a side bet with Barry Greenstein, who put him at 10-1 to win a bracelet this year. Elezra took on the bet for $25,000 and can now collect $250,000 from Greenstein. During the interview after winning, Elezra said, "I'm sorry, Barry Greenstein. I got you, baby!" But after playing regularly in the WSOP since 1999, winning the bracelet was far more important to Elezra than the money. In an interview after the event, he said, ?I mean, for me, the money - I'm playing every night for three, four, five hundred thousand dollars, you know, when I'm playing in the high limit games. So the bracelet was worth way, way more than the money for me.?
