The winner of the largest World Series of Poker ladies tournament in the history of poker was poker novice Sally Anne Boyer, who won the $1,000 buy-in No Limit Hold?em Ladies World Championship, her first WSOP event ever.Sally Anne Boyer, a former opera singer from Midway, Utah, participated in the two-day seminar at the WSOP Academy Ladies Only camp where a private tournament was held in which 10 seats could be won for the Ladies Championship event. Unfortunately, Boyer didn?t win a seat in that tournament. Before driving home, she decided to try again at a $65 tournament at the Golden Nugget, a decision she wouldn?t regret. She won that tournament and took home $1.100, money she used to buy a seat in the $1,000 Ladies Championship.
Boyer?s win in the Ladies Championship is quite an achievement! She has been playing poker for only a year, and before she won the Ladies Championship she had only played in small tournaments, never in a ladies only tournament or in an event at the World Series of Poker.
The WSOP Ladies Championship of 2007, with 1,286 players, was the largest in history. The previous record was set at the Ladies Championship last year with 1,128 participants. Boyer?s win in the Ladies Championship paid her $264,107. That was the second-highest cash prize ever won by a woman in the WSOP, only beaten by the cash prize of $400,000 which Tiffany Williams won with her 15th place in the main event in 2005. In addition to the prize money, Boyer also received a gold and sapphire WSOP bracelet and a Corum watch.
"It was a huge win for someone with my limited experience," Boyer said. "It can happen to anybody."
