6/10/07posted by Poker Queen @ 10:52 AM The World Series of Poker Academy Ladies Only camp included a seminar on how to decode poker tells, held by retired FBI agent Joe Navarro.Nearly 100 women attended the WSOP Academy Ladies Only camp, which took place in Caesars Palace on Friday June 8th and Saturday June 9th. The 25 year veteran Joe Navarro taught the ladies how read their opponents nonverbal clues. Joe Navarro worked for the FBI as both an agent and a supervisor in counterintelligence and counterterrorism, and specialized in studying and interpreting the behavior of spies. He is considered one of the few elite experts in decoding nonverbal clues and behavior. The message that Navarro gave at the WSOP Academy Ladies Only camp was that nonverbal behavior is just as incriminating in poker as during interrogation. Poker is about more than the cards, more than betting. It?s also about reading your opponents nonverbal clues, known in poker as tells. Knowing how to read the other players tells gives you an advantage in the game. According to Navarro, when you crinkle your nose you think your cards stink. A sign of stress could be your lips tightening. Interlocking your fingers shows your opponents that you?re worried. A sign of confidence is when you form a steeple with your hands, putting your hands together so that the fingertips and thumb touch with the palms apart. "Someone has the winning hand and they'll steeple and they don't realize they're doing it," Navarro said. Then it?s probably time to give up. The WSOP Ladies Championship starts today, Sunday 10th, at noon. It will be interesting to see if the ladies who attended Navarro?s seminar will use their new knowledge about nonverbal behavior to detect and interpret their opponents tells.
