Hello again fellow poker fans. I'm here in California for the Bay 101 WPT
poker tournament. This is a unique event because there is a pro at every
table with a bounty on their head. Anyone who knocks a pro out of the
tourney gets $5,000. There are around 50 pros here and lots of fans around
getting autographs and glimpses of their favorite players.

Day 1-- 376 starting players. Barry Greenstein is at my table. Rhynie
Cambell is also at my table but he's not a bounty. An hour in I get aces on
the button and raise 4 times the blind. The big blind calls. I bet the flop
and turn when the board was unpaired and uncoordinated. He called me down
with 10-7, then ended up hitting runner- runner hearts to make a flush on
the river. Lost 9,000 in the that pot. I went the next couple of hours and
only won a couple of small pots. I was getting a lot of 8-3's and 4-9's--
nothing worth playing. We went to dinner and I was down to 14,000 chips from
my original 20,000. A couple players got knocked out from our table and Mike
"the mouth" Matusow came. He proceded to talk nonstop for the next hour. At
one point I was down to 6,500. I pushed all-in with A-10 twice and A-Q once.
I got no callers but picked up the blinds and antes. I survived a while but
still wasn't gaining any chips. Rhynie raised 3 times the blind. I decided
to make a stand with 10-J and went all-in. He called with pocket nines. I
hit 2 pair and doubled up. A little while later I was at 9,600. I raised
from early position with A-Q. Another short stacker shoved in on me. I
barely had him covered, but called anyway. He had K-J. The flop came Q-7-4.
Then he hit his king on the turn. But I spiked an ace on the river to win. I
end the day with 18,300.

Day 2 -- In the morning I run into Matusow and we talk how we were both
so short stacked and lucky to make it through day 1. We wished each other
good luck. I get to the casino to find my table and who is there? Mike
Matusow, again!! The blinds are 500 and 1,000 with a 200 ante. Hand 5 I pick
up Q-Q and raise. 1 caller. Flop comes J-10-5. I shove all-in, but get no
call. Next hand, J-J. I raise and small blind calls. Flop comes 10-4-5. He
bets 6,000, leaving himself only 12,000 more. I go all-in. He goes in the
tank for a couple of minutes, then folds. I'm now up to about 30,000. I've
built my chips and gained a reputation at this table for being loose-
aggressive. A couple of rounds later I get pocket queens on the button and
raise 4 times the blind, (Mike Matusow's big blind). He shoots me a look and
I know he thinks I'm trying to steal his blind. He calls. The flop comes
4-8-10. He moves all-in for 22,000. I call immediately. He shakes his head
in disgust when he sees my queens. He has 7-8 for a pair of 8's. My queens
hold and I'm at 58,000.(picked up his bounty too). That was my high point. I
got into another big hand later with pocket 10's. I called a raise, then the
flop came K-K-5. He bet 6,500. I called. 4 on the turn. Check-check. 8 on
the river. Check- check and he flipped over jacks. I thought my 10's were
good but they weren't. Then the hand that killed me.(600-1200 blinds w/ 200
ante) I'm in first position with A heart-K heart. I raised and got 4
callers. Flop came 10-5-8. I throw out 10,000. 1 caller. Ace on the turn. I
figured the caller had A-K or A-Q or A-J or maybe J-J. So I thought I was
good and the pot was big already. I moved all-in. He called and had A-10,
for 2 pair. I guess I missed the sounding bells when he called the 10,000
flop bet. I missed hitting a king on the river and was out. 92 place out of
376. Paid 45 spots.

Needless to say I'm a little disappointed in myself. After battling from
a short stack, again, to get some chips, then fall short of the money,
sucks. But, the memories, the 5 grand for busting Matusow, and a shirt that
says " I busted Mike Matusow at the Bay 101 poker tournament---that's
priceless!!
