The days of planning a yearly trip to Las Vegas are over. Once every 365 days, I ventured out to the city where 'everything stays' (usually money), intent on a week of live poker action. Not a high roller by any means, I enjoyed playing cards in various poker rooms. When in Las Vegas, poker rooms are abundant from the main stream casinos to the underground seedy joints. After a friend finally convinced me of the profit he made playing in several online poker rooms, I decided to try something new.
The first few poker rooms I signed up with didn't impress me. At first I chose to play cards in poker rooms that advertised everywhere with almost overwhelming game choices and a sea of players. Although these poker rooms offered variety and many people to play against, I felt like a number in the system. I decided to examine the market and find a more appropriate place to play poker. I found various smaller poker rooms that offered great bonus incentives and good support but the lack of players and tournament choices soon disappointed me. Luckily, without having to try every one of the remaining poker rooms I found a site that offered me exactly what I wanted; busy tables, great tournament selection, and the customer service one would expect from a smaller operation (smaller card rooms tend to place greater emphasis on client relations as a way to attract new business).
Having made my selection from the available poker rooms, I began learning and adjusting to the online poker style of play. Overall, I find playing at online poker rooms easier and there are less tells to give away and I find players easier to read based on betting habits. In fact, from my experience a patient player can make pretty decent money in some of these poker rooms. The greatest advantage for me is the fact I can play cards anywhere, anytime I want, as long as I have my computer and access to the internet. No need for expensive vacations. Instant gratification is what poker rooms offer. Admittedly, there are times when I do think about the land based poker rooms of the past, those moments are few and fleeting however. Poker rooms are everywhere and that is a comfort for someone like me who thinks of poker where ever I am.
