Northern New York Poker Activity Rises As Snow Falls; Telecommuters Playing Texas Holdem on the Side

February 9, New York – This season’s first drastic decrease in temperature left parts of northern New York shivering as they dipped well below 0° F. As schools, offices and roads closed, the public searched for an entertainment outlet, and they found one. Absolute Poker – one of the world’s largest online poker sites – noted a 32 percent player increase in the Northern N.Y. region’s activity.

Many accounts that are routinely dormant during business hours went active over the past week as many players were forced to “work from home” as opposed to facing Mother Nature’s wrath. Absolute Poker expect that many players’ poker game vastly improved during the white out.

“For us, a sure sign of winter is a dramatic up-tick in online poker activity,” said David Clainer, senior vice president for Absolute Poker. “As soon as temperatures drop and snow begins to fall, our numbers begin to rise.”
