22 hours of flying for 72 hours of metal. The other week I flew home to England for Download festival and the Metal Hammer awards, which I was the TV host for. It was bizarre getting on a long haul flight with only hand-baggage, but also strangely liberating being able to just walk on and walk off. I didn't feel quite so fantastic when I had to get back on the plane to Vegas the next day however.
Anyway, as soon as I landed Duncan and I drove up to Donington for the festival, picking up our VIP passes on the way (that's how we roll, baby) and had a fantastic, sleepless weekend which included joy-riding in a golf buggy with the guys from Testament, and most importantly getting to watch my favourite band Children of Bodom from the side of the stage. The next day we and the rest of the rock community drove down to London for the awards, which this year were held at the 02 arena and were set to be massive. The first part of my job was to introduce the bands onstage to a crowd of screaming metal fans onboard "HMS Hammer", a chartered boat that paddled up and down the Thames for 3 hours. Then it was onto the main awards, where I basically got to hang out in the most VIP of VIP areas backstage and party like a rock star with the rock stars whilst interviewing them about what it's like to be a rock star... fantastic!
