What I love about No Limit Texas Holdem

I consider myself an avid poker player but a professional by no means. In the past I played most every poker game available but the one I am crazy about is No Limit Texas Holdem. Some people do not find much difference between limit and no limit texas holdem but I consider them quite distinguishable. The very fact that there is an unlimited betting option, changes No limit Texas Holdem form the usually tamer limit version. It is easy to win big and lose big with just one hand. I truly believe that the ability to strong arm a player who has a short chip stack or use the chips themselves to strengthen what is really a weak hand are key factors that draw people to No Limit Texas Holdem.

For those that argue the only difference between Limit and No Limit Texas Holdem is the betting are probably inexperienced. Sure, betting is the only difference in the 'rules' but this seemingly small difference allows for better bluffing strategies and requires a more skillful player in my opinion. No Limit Texas Holdem is not a game for the timid; it is a true testament to a game where skill and chance bear equal weight. No Limit Texas Holdem forces a player to play and thus the decisions to bet into a pot are important. The most comfortable position in No Limit Texas Holdem is definitely last. Last position affords a player the opportunity to gauge the strength of his/her opponents' hands while deciding if the current bet is worth it to see the flop. The late position can always be bluffed into a bet but bluffing is as much a part of No Limit Texas Holdem as any other poker game.

The greatest appeal that no limit has for me is the ability to win big. I am a patient player and I like to gauge my opponents at the table. I learned over the years that sometimes you have to lay down nice hands and wait for the right opportunity to seize a big pot. This strategy plays well at the No Limit Texas Holdem tables. You should always be prepared for a loss and even at times a big loss, anyone can be out played or out bet and unless you are holding the nuts there are never any guarantees. I remember a hand playing No Limit Texas Holdem where I went all-inn for $2000 only to see my Quad 7's lose to Quad 10's my opponent held pocket 10's and I held pocket 7's I figured him for trip 10's by the way he called my bet but obviously he had the nuts. Sure it can be a tough cruel game, but that is what I love about No Limit Texas Holdem.
