Absolute Poker – It’s Business as Usual
Dear Absolute Poker.com Player -
As you may already know, in October 2006 the United States Congress enacted – and President Bush signed – the Safe Port Act, an act that addresses, in part, online gaming.
Title VIII of the Safe Port Act is known as the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 (the "UIGEA”).
Absolute Poker (“AP”) has received extensive and expert legal counsel from around the world, and we have concluded that the UIGEA does not make it illegal for us to offer online poker to customers who reside in the United States, nor does it prohibit you from playing online poker at AP.
We understand that reports that the regulations recently promulgated pursuant to the UIGEA (the “Regulations”) are effective on January 19, 2009, may be a source of confusion and uncertainty for some AP players. Irrespective of mounting speculation and targets of the media spotlight, our legal position is correct and we are standing behind our players.
Therefore, our business remains as it has always been: open to players worldwide, including American players.
Please be assured that you may continue to play on our site just as you did prior to the enactment of the UIGEA. You can be confident that your money is always safe in your AP account, and that you are free to cash out at your leisure.
Absolute Poker believes that poker is a form of recreation and entertainment for millions of Americans, and is a game of skill enjoyed by millions of players around the world. We remain committed to providing you with a safe and fun environment in which to play online poker.
Our legal counsel continue to closely monitor developments, including with respect to the UIGEA, and all AP players will be informed of any changes to our current legal capacity to service US players.
We value your loyalty to Absolute Poker.com, and we look forward to continuing to serve you with the best online poker experience, as we have since we started in 2003.
